Autorun Screen Is Displayed After RebootLast reviewed: February 9, 1998Article ID: Q172425 |

SYMPTOMSThe AutoRun splash screen may be displayed when you reboot a system following an installation of Internet Explorer.
CAUSEThe CD-ROM setup of a customized version of Internet Explorer has two checks to determine how setup will run. The two checks are the Internet Explorer version number and the Company Name. Setup checks the version of Internet Explorer to decide whether or not it should upgrade to the newer version, treat it as a new install, or just update the installed files. Another check, which is specific to customized browsers created by Internet Explorer Administration Kit (IEAK), is the Company Name. The company is defined in the wizard and can also be manually edited by changing it in the INS file that is to be used by the IEAK wizard. This setting is stored in the Registry. When the setup program detects a different customized browser from another company, it thinks that a new install needs to be run and the splash screen is displayed. Therefore, if an Internet Explorer installation has already been done on a computer and the AutoRun splash screen is being displayed, then there are either different versions of Internet Explorer installed or the Company Name stored in the registry is different from the one being installed.
