Installing Visual J++ with Internet Explorer 4.0

The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 for Windows 95
  • Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 for Windows NT 4.0

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Visual J++ on a computer with Microsoft Internet Explorer version 4.0 installed, you receive the following error message:

   Visual J++ requires the installation of Internet Explorer 3.0 with Java
   support. Setup will now install Internet Explorer 3.0.

The only available option is Install.

CAUSE

Visual J++ 1.0 does not recognize Internet Explorer 4.0 as a version of Internet Explorer that contains Java support.

RESOLUTION

To install Visual J++ 1.0, follow these steps:

  1. When you receive the error message, click Install.

  2. When you receive the "Internet Explorer 3.0 cannot be installed on a system that has Internet Explorer 4.0 installed" message, click OK.
