Windows Does Not Restart After Installing Additional Components

SYMPTOMS

When you install a component from the Internet Explorer 4.0 Component Download Web page and then click Yes when you are prompted to restart Windows, your modem may disconnect but Windows may not restart.

CAUSE

This behavior can occur if America Online is your Internet service provider (ISP), and you are using version 3.0 of the America Online software.

RESOLUTION

To work around this behavior, manually restart Windows. To do so, click Start, click Shut Down, click Restart The Computer, and then click Yes.
