SYMPTOMSWhen you try to install Internet Explorer 4.0, you may receive one or more of the following error messages:
CAUSEThis behavior can occur when you are connecting to the Internet using a SOCKS proxy server, and the proxy configuration information is not written to the registry during Setup.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, follow these steps:
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be problem in Internet Explorer 4.0 and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
MORE INFORMATIONThis behavior is known to occur with SOCKS proxy version 4 or later. SOCKS is an Internet proxy server standard.
