SYMPTOMSWhen you upgrade to Internet Explorer 4.0 from Internet Explorer 3.0, 3.01, 3.02a, or 3.03 for Windows 3.1, your proxy server settings may not be retained.
CAUSEThis behavior occurs because Internet Explorer 3.0, 3.01, 3.02a, and 3.03 for Windows 3.1 stores proxy server settings in the Iexplore.ini file. Later versions of Internet Explorer are not designed to read this file, so the settings are not transferred during the upgrade.
RESOLUTIONAdd your proxy server information in Internet Explorer 4.0. To do so, follow these steps:
