Dial-Up Networking Monitor Not Displayed on Taskbar

SYMPTOMS

Dial-Up Networking Monitor may not appear on the taskbar when Internet Explorer dials the Internet automatically when the browser starts.

CAUSE

This problem can occur if Internet Connection Manager has not notified Dial-Up Networking that it has initiated a dial-up session.

RESOLUTION

To work around this problem, use one of the following methods:

Method 1

Start Dial-Up Networking after Internet Explorer has automatically connected to the Internet using the following steps:

  1. Double-click My Computer.

  2. Double-click Dial-Up Networking.

Method 2

Do not use Internet Explorer to automatically dial your Internet connection. Instead, connect to the Internet using Dial-Up Networking before starting Internet Explorer.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
