SYMPTOMS
When you connect to a mail server using Outlook Express without first
establishing a connection to the Internet, one of the following error
messages may be displayed:
- An error occurred while establishing the Dial-Up Networking connection
"<name of connection>"
- MSIMN caused an invalid page fault in Module KERNEL32.DLL at <address>
RESOLUTION
To connect to your mail server using a modem, use one of the following
methods:
Create a New Dial-Up Connection
- In Outlook Express, click Accounts on the Tools menu, and then click
the Mail tab.
- Double-click the mail account you want to configure, and then click the
Connection tab.
- Click Connect Using My Phone Line.
- Click Add, and then type a name for the new connection in the "Type a
name for the computer you are dialing" box.
- In the Select A Modem box, click the modem you want to use, and then
click Next.
- In the Area Code and Telephone Number boxes, type the area code and
telephone number, click Next, and then click Finish.
NOTE: If you need to customize the Transport Control Protocol/Internet
Protocol (TCP/IP) settings for your Internet service provider (ISP),
click Properties on the Connection tab, and then make the necessary
changes.
- Click OK, and then click Close.
Use Internet Explorer or Third-Party Dialer
- In Outlook Express, click Accounts on the Tools menu, and then click
the Mail tab.
- Double-click the mail account you want to configure, and then click the
Connection tab.
- Click "Connect using Internet Explorer's or a 3rd party dialer."
- Click OK, and then click Close.
