The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen using FTP clients that call the SIZE command, Internet Information Server (IIS) locks files on the FTP server and will not release them until IIS is completely shut down. As a result, locked files cannot be deleted.
WORKAROUNDTo temporarily correct the problem, stop and restart IIS 4.0. You can do this with these two commands:
Net stop iisadmin /y Net start iisadminThis will also stop the World Wide Web Publishing Service.
RESOLUTIONTo resolve this problem, apply the fix described below.
STATUSMicrosoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Internet Information Server, version 4.0. A supported fix is now available, but has not been fully regression-tested and should be applied only to systems experiencing this specific problem. Unless you are severely impacted by this specific problem, Microsoft recommends that you wait for the next Service Pack that contains this fix.
