PRB: ODBC Version Conflict Messages Launching Visual InterDevLast reviewed: December 9, 1997Article ID: Q165869 |
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen launching Visual InterDev, an error message can occur stating that there is a version conflict between two or more ODBC system files.
CAUSEInstalling Peer Web Services on NT Workstation 4.0 will always overwrite the ODBC files ODBCINT.DLL and ODBCCP32.DLL with version 2.50.30.6 of these files even if the files that already exist are more recent. If Visual InterDev is installed first, some of the ODBC files will be the version that InterDev shipped and some will get overwritten with older versions by the Peer Web Services install. This behavior causes the version conflict message.
RESOLUTIONTo get the ODBC files back in sync, remove Visual InterDev through the Control Panel "Add/Remove Programs" applet and then reinstall. To avoid this problem altogether, install Peer Web Services before Visual InterDev.
STATUSMicrosoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
MORE INFORMATION
Steps to Reproduce Behavior
Note that the versions of ODBCINT.DLL and ODBCCP32.DLL in the system dir are now 2.50.30.6.
