FIX: Reserved Error When Running DataForm Wizard Against Access

SYMPTOMS

The following error occurs when you use the DataForm Wizard to output more than 51 fields of a single Access table:

   Reserved error -2147220496

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This bug has been corrected in Visual Studio 97 Service Pack 1.

Steps to Reproduce Behavior

  1. Open Access.

  2. Create a new database.

  3. Create a new table.

  4. Create 52 fields in the table (all fields of type text, 50).

  5. Save and close Access.

  6. Open project in Visual InterDev.

  7. Add a datasource to newly created database.

  8. Run the DataForm Wizard, accept all defaults, and add all fields.

Result: When the wizard is creating the "Action.asp" page, the error occurs.
