Last reviewed: December 19, 1997
Article ID: Q168269
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Visual InterDev, version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

When using the MSWC.BrowserType control that installs with the Active Server Pages, the properties of the control return "Unknown" when run on IE 3.02 or IE 4.0.

CAUSE

The cause of this error is that the file, BrowsCap.ini, does not have an entry for IE 3.02 or IE 4.0.

RESOLUTION

An updated version of the BrowsCap.ini file is available from http://www.microsoft.com/iis/usingiis/developing/updates.htm. Download the file and save it over the existing BrowsCap.ini file. This file should be located in \Program Files\WEBSVR\SYSTEM\ASP\Cmpnts on a Windows 95 machine or in \WINNT\system32\inetsrv\ASP\Cmpnts on a Windows NT machine.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This bug has been corrected in Visual Studio 97 Service Pack 1.
