FIX: Cannot Access the ClassView Information File Error

Last reviewed: January 29, 1998
Article ID: Q167828
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Visual J++, version 1.1

SYMPTOMS

When reopening a project workspace in Visual J++ 1.1, a dialog box with the following error message may appear:

   Cannot access the ClassView information file. ClassView information
   will not be available.

The error dialog box has an OK button. If you click OK, the project workspace continues to open. When the project is open, the ClassView tab, or pane, of the project Workspace window will not display the tree view of the classes in the project as is normally expected.

RESOLUTION

This bug can be fixed by installing the Service Pack 1 of Visual Studio 97. The Service Pack can be applied to both the Visual J++ 1.1 shipped with Visual Studio 97 as well as the Visual J++ 1.1 that is sold as a stand- alone product.

Note that installing the Service Pack 1 on the Visual J++ 1.1 free Trial Edition is not a configuration that has been tested by Microsoft. While there are no expected problems when you apply the Service Pack to the free Trial Edition, it has not been tested and is therefore not recommended.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a bug in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. This bug has been corrected in Visual Studio 97 Service Pack 1.

For additional information about the Visual Studio 97 Service Pack 1, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:

MORE INFORMATION

This bug is encountered when you set a breakpoint in your Visual J++ project, and then close the project workspace with the breakpoint remaining set. If you reopen the workspace in the same Visual J++ session, you will receive the error dialog box mentioned above.
