This article contains the instructions for removing IntelliType 1.0 software from Microsoft Windows NT. The text below was taken from the IntelliType README.TXT file.

  1. In the Command Shell or in File Manager, check the \MSINPUT directory to see if \KEYBOARD is the only subdirectory. If it is, then go to step 2. If there are other subdirectories, indicating that you have other Microsoft input devices installed, then go to step 3.

    Note: The directory path may be different if you specified a different target directory during Setup.

  2. Perform the following operations if \KEYBOARD is the ONLY subdirectory of the \MSINPUT directory. If there is another input device installed in this directory, skip this step and go on to step 3.

    (a)Delete the file \Windows\idintl32.dll. (b)Open the Registry Editor by running REGEDT32.EXE from File Manager or Program Manager. (c)In HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\i8402prt, change the Start value entry to 1. (d)Delete the following registry keys:

    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Control \SessionManager\DOS Devices\WINKBD HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\msi8042 HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Microsoft Input Devices HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Microsoft Input Devices (e)In the registry key HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft \WindowsNT\CurrentVersion\Windows, delete the string C:\MSINPUT\point32.exe from the value entry "run". Now go to step 4.

  3. Perform these operations if there is another subdirectory in the \MSINPUT directory, indicating there is another Microsoft input device installed:

    (a)Using the Registry Editor, delete the following registry keys

            HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Control Panel\Microsoft Input Devices
            \Keyboard
            HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Microsoft Input
            Devices\Keyboard
        (b)\Delete the following value entries from HKEY_USERS\
           .DEFAULT\Control Panel\Microsoft Input Devices\WindowsPointer
    
           FastPointer
           MouseKey
           MouseKeyDelay
           MouseKeyFeedback
           MouseKeySpeed
    
        (c)Delete the following value entries from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\
           Control Panel\Microsoft Input Devices\WindowsPointer
    
           FastPointer
           MouseKey
           MouseKeyDelay
           MouseKeyFeedback
           MouseKeySpeed
    
        (d)Delete the following value entry from HKEY_USERS\
           .DEFAULT\Control Panel\Microsoft Input Devices\Sounds
    
           KeySound
    
        (e)Delete the following value entry from HKEY_CURRENT_USER\ Control
           Panel\Microsoft Input
           Devices\Sounds
    
          KeySound
    
         Go on to step 4.
    
    

  4. Delete the following registry keys:

    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Don't Load

    HKEY_USERS\.DEFAULT\Control Panel\Microsoft Input Devices \Taskman

    HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\Control Panel\Don't Load

    HKEY_CURRENT_USERS\Control Panel\Microsoft Input Devices \Taskman

  5. Delete the file kbsnd32.dll from the \MSINPUT directory.

  6. Rename the following files in \MSINPUT:

    point32.exe to point32e.ms point32.dll to point32d.ms

  7. Restart your machine and delete the two *.ms files you renamed.

  8. Delete all files in the C:\MSINPUT\KEYBOARD directory. If there are no other input devices installed in the \MSINPUT directory, you can delete that directory also.

  9. Delete the files TASKSW32.EXE and TASKMAN.HLP from your \Windows directory.

  10. Delete the IntelliType Manager, Task Manager, and IntelliType Readme icons from the Microsoft Input Devices program group. If you have no other Microsoft Input Devices installed, you can also delete the Microsoft Input Devices program group.

Note: You must have a user account with Administration security privileges to uninstall the IntelliType software in Windows NT.
