Double Ampersand (&) Characters in IntelliType Setup Program

Last reviewed: October 25, 1996

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Natural Keyboard with IntelliType software version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

When you are running the IntelliType software Setup program, two ampersand (&) characters appear in the name and company verification screen for each ampersand that you enter in the Name field. For example, if you enter

   Bill & Ted

in the Name field, you see

   Bill && Ted

in the verification screen.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft IntelliType software version 1.0. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

This problem has not been shown to have any harmful side effects. The name and company information is written to the Setup disk to be used in subsequent installations of the IntelliType software. Since the information shown in the verification screen is written to the Setup disk, you may want to use a substitute for the ampersand character. No other characters are known to exhibit this behavior.
