The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Mouse Driver for MS-DOS, versions 5.x, 6.x, 7.x, 8.x, and 9.0.

If you are using the Microsoft Mouse driver version 8.2a or earlier, you may notice flickering dots on the screen when running MS-DOS Shell in the graphics screen display mode or other MS-DOS-based applications that use graphics video modes.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft Mouse driver versions 8.2a and earlier. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Mouse driver version 9.0.

Note: The flickering dots seem to be more pronounced on display adapters that use the ET4000 chip set, but not limited to this chip set.
