Mouse Stops Responding with PC Tools Screen Saver

The following information applies to:
  • Microsoft Mouse driver for MS-DOS, versions 9.0, 9.01

SYMPTOMS

Your mouse stops responding when you return to an MS-DOS-based application after the screen saver from Central Point Software PC Tools 8.0 is activated.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do one of the following:

  • Disable the PC Tools screen saver.

    -or-

  • Exit the application using the keyboard and then reinitialize the mouse driver by typing "mouse" (without the quotation marks) at the MOUSE subdirectory.

    -or-

  • Use an earlier version of the Microsoft Mouse driver. This behavior does not occur with Microsoft Mouse driver versions 8.2 and earlier.

Microsoft is researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
