SUMMARY

In the Help file for Microsoft IntelliPoint Tools & Controls, the Enabling ClickLock topic does not describe how to enable and use ClickLock with the version 1.0 Microsoft BallPoint Mouse. This article provides instructions to do so.

MORE INFORMATION

The version 1.0 BallPoint Mouse has four buttons. To set the primary and secondary buttons you can use either Control Panel or the IntelliPoint Tools & Controls Buttons tab. Select one button as the primary button and another as the secondary button. The two buttons remaining are the alternate buttons. These alternate buttons are used for the ClickLock function.

Use the following steps to enable and use the ClickLock feature with version 1.0 of the BallPoint Mouse:

  1. Enable the ClickLock feature with the steps below:

    a. Open Microsoft IntelliPoint Tools & Controls in the Microsoft

          Input Devices group.

    b. Click the Buttons tab (the default).

    c. Select the ClickLock Enabled check box.

    d. Close Microsoft IntelliPoint Tools & Controls.

  2. Move the mouse pointer to an icon in one of the open Program Manager groups and click the primary button once to select the icon.

  3. Click either of the two alternate buttons once.

  4. Click the primary button once. You can now move the icon can without holding down a mouse button.

  5. After moving the icon to the desired location, click any of the four buttons to drop the icon into position.

You can use the same procedure to move selected text in a document. Assuming the ClickLock feature is enabled as described above, use the following steps to move text:

  1. Highlight (select) the text to be moved.

  2. Click either of the alternate buttons once.

  3. With the mouse pointer positioned on the selected text, click the primary button once. (This does not remove the highlight from the text block.) You can now move the text to another location in the file without holding down a mouse button.

  4. Click any one of the four buttons to drop the text at the desired location.
