IntelliPoint Setup Does Not Update SYSTEM.INI File

Last reviewed: September 12, 1996
Article ID: Q130599
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft IntelliPoint software Professional Edition version 1.0
  • Microsoft IntelliPoint software Standard Edition version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

The IntelliPoint mouse driver version 1.0 may not work in a full-screen MS-DOS-based application when the previous mouse driver was not a Microsoft driver.

CAUSE

This problem occurs because the IntelliPoint 1.0 Setup program does not update the MOUSE= line in the [386Enh] section of the SYSTEM.INI file. If the pointing device specified in this line is not a Microsoft mouse driver, Setup does not remove it. Some of the third-party drivers specified in this line do not allow the mouse to work in full-screen MS-DOS-based applications running in Windows.

RESOLUTION

Change the MOUSE= line so that it reads:

   MOUSE=*VMD

STATUS

This problem no longer occurs in the Microsoft IntelliPoint software version 1.0a.
