Mouse Driver 8.0, MouseType=PS2 Reports MSX Driver Installed

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Mouse Driver for MS-DOS, version 8.0

SUMMARY

Even if you specify the correct allowable value for a Microsoft Mouse on a mouse port (PS2, not PS/2) in the MOUSE.INI file when installing the mouse driver, the message "MSX Mouse driver installed" is displayed.

MORE INFORMATION

Even though the message reports that the MSX mouse driver is installed, the correct MS-DOS mouse driver has instead been installed. In some cases, using the command line switch /Z causes the correct message, "Mouse driver installed" to be displayed. Even if using the /Z switch doesn't display the correct message, you should not experience any problems, because the correct mouse driver is actually loaded.

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Mouse driver version 8.0. No update is necessary because this problem does not have any effect on performance. This problem was corrected in Microsoft Mouse driver version 8.1.
