SYMPTOMSAfter you install the Microsoft Mouse driver version 8.1 for MS-DOS and Windows, a message similar to the following may be displayed when you start Microsofat Windows:
APPLICATION EXECUTION ERROR Cannot find file; check to ensure the path and filename are correct. CAUSESThis error can be caused by the addition of the POINTER.EXE path to the LOAD= line in the WIN.INI. If there are two spaces between the LOAD= line and the path or filename, and/or two spaces between any part of the path or filename, the error occurs when you start Windows.
RESOLUTIONTo correct this problem, open the WIN.INI file in SysEdit, Notepad, or another text editor. Make sure that there is not more than ONE space between the LOAD= line and the immediate path or filename and/or that there is not more than ONE space between any part of the path or filename. Delete any extra spaces as necessary and save the file, then close and restart Windows.
