Microsoft Mouse Driver Setup On Floppy Disks

SUMMARY

When installing your Microsoft Mouse software to a floppy disk, the Microsoft Mouse Setup program expects an MS-DOS system disk in the destination drive if it needs to alter the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

If you would like Setup to install to a floppy disk and you want it to alter the AUTOEXEC.BAT file, you must have an MS-DOS system disk in the destination drive. If it is not, the following message will be displayed:

The disk in drive A: does not contain the DOS System files. Please insert a disk that contains these files into the drive.

Press ENTER to continue, F3 to exit Setup

At this point, you must either

  • Exit, make an MS-DOS system disk, and rerun Setup

    -or-

  • Insert a MS-DOS system disk and press ENTER

    -or-

  • Exit, rerun Setup, and do not choose to alter the AUTOEXEC.BAT file.

Any of the following will alter your AUTOEXEC.BAT file:
  • Choosing to load the mouse automatically
  • Choosing to load the Control Panel automatically
  • Choosing to add the Mouse directory to the PATH statement

To make an MS-DOS system disk, do the following:

  1. Insert a disk in drive A.

    Note: All information on this disk will be erased so DO NOT USE a disk with any files of importance on it.

  2. From the drive C command prompt, enter the following command: 

          format a: /s

When the format is complete, you will have an MS-DOS system disk. You can now rerun the Microsoft Mouse Setup program and choose any options.
