SYMPTOMS

When you use a Microsoft Mouse or Microsoft IntelliMouse on a computer with an internal pointing device (such as a trackball, fingerpoint key, or touch pad), you may experience one or more of the following problems:

  • The following error message may appear when you load the mouse driver:

Driver Not Installed -- Microsoft Mouse not found.

  • Erratic mouse pointer movement.
  • No mouse pointer response to mouse movement.
  • No response to mouse button clicks.
  • Internal pointing device or external mouse stops working after a few minutes of use.
  • Only the internal mouse works.

CAUSE

The problems listed above can occur if there is a conflict between the internal pointing device and the external mouse.

RESOLUTION

To resolve a conflict between an internal pointing device and your Microsoft Mouse or IntelliMouse so that the external mouse works properly, you can try connecting your mouse to a COM port using the serial adapter included with your Microsoft mouse, or disable the internal pointing device on your computer.

For information about how to disable the internal pointing device on your computer, consult the documentation for your computer or contact your computer's manufacturer.
