The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Mouse Driver for Windows, version 9.0
  • Microsoft Mouse Driver for MS-DOS, version 9.0

The MOUSE.EXE file included with the Microsoft Mouse driver 9.0 performs the following load sequence:

  1. Process the command line and execute any switches.

  2. Read the mouse initialization file (MOUSE.INI) for settings.

  3. Locate the device by initializing device modules in the following order:

        - PS2
        - Serial
        - Inport
        - Bus

  4. Load video modules that are required for the system (for example, CGA or VGA).

  5. Move the device and video modules that initialized successfully, and discard initialization code that is no longer needed (compaction).

  6. Reset the mouse driver in its new location in memory.

  7. Terminate processing but stay resident in memory.
