Administrative Rights Err Msgs. Setting Up NetShow on Windows NTLast reviewed: September 16, 1997Article ID: Q170910 |
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen I run Microsoft Windows NT, and I try to setup NetShow, I get error messages telling me I need to have administrative rights.
CAUSEYou have to be an administrator to install NetShow components because the Setup program makes changes to the system. The NetShow Tools and Client installs Codecs, and the NetShow server installs Server Services. In each of these cases, you have to be an administrator because the Setup program makes changes to the system; this is a design requirement in Windows NT.
WORKAROUNDThere is no workaround. You need to have administrative rights to install and configure the Server and Player. However, once NetShow is installed, you do not need to have administrative rights to use the player or tools.
