Office: Can't Run Office Setup Program with Monochrome Display

SYMPTOMS

When you run the Setup program for Microsoft Office version 3.0 for Windows, you may receive the error message "General Protection Fault in Module SETUP.ENG at XXXX:XXXX."

CAUSE

This error may be caused by a monochrome video driver. Although applications such as Windows, Microsoft Excel, and Word support monochrome displays, the Office Setup program does not.

The Microsoft Office Setup program requires a VGA or higher resolution video driver.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, do one of the following:

  • Install each application individually from its respective Setup program.

    -or-

  • Use a VGA or higher resolution video driver.
