Office: Setup Detects Word Is Running After OLE OperationLast reviewed: September 16, 1996Article ID: Q118343 |
The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen you run Microsoft Office Setup immediately after you run an application and link it to an object using the OLE feature, Microsoft Office Setup reports that Microsoft Word is running (even when you've closed all applications except for Office Setup).
CAUSEThis behavior occurs because of the way Microsoft Windows manages memory.
WORKAROUNDAlthough you can bypass this screen and continue Setup, we recommend that you restart Windows to reset your computer's memory and run the Microsoft Office Setup program again.
MORE INFORMATIONUnder certain conditions, embedding an OLE object and then quitting the host application immediately before you run Office Setup will produce an alert telling you that Setup has detected that Word is running (even though the only application that is running is Office Setup). Note also that the earlier OLE operation that Setup has detected may not have anything to do with the Word application.
