Last reviewed: November 17, 1997
Article ID: Q127792
The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel for the Macintosh, versions 5.0, 5.0a
  • Microsoft Word for the Macintosh, versions 6.0, 6.0.1

SYMPTOMS

In Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Word, when you choose a button on the ControlStrip toolbar that ships with System 7.1.1 or 7.5 on a PowerBook computer, the Microsoft application may hang.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you use the keyboard to select an item on a menu in Microsoft Excel or Word, and you then resize or choose a button on the ControlStrip toolbar.

For example, in Microsoft Excel, if you press F10 to activate the File menu, and then press the DOWN ARROW key to select an item on the File menu, if you then choose a button on the ControlStrip toolbar, or resize the toolbar while the File menu is displayed, Microsoft Excel may stop responding, and you may need to restart your Macintosh.

Note that the ControlStrip toolbar is available in System 7.1 and 7.5, but only available on a PowerBook computer.

MORE INFORMATION

The Apple PowerBook is manufactured by Apple Computer, a vendor independent of Microsoft; we make no warranty, implied or otherwise, regarding this product's performance or reliability.
