SYMPTOMS

If you use the Paste Special command to link text from Microsoft Word for Windows or Microsoft Excel for Windows into WordPad with the Display As Icon option enabled, the icon is missing after you save, close, and open the document. Instead, the text of the link is displayed. If you try to restore the icon using the Object Properties command, a distorted icon is displayed.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in Microsoft Windows 95. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.
