The information in this article applies to:

  • Microsoft Office for Windows 95, version 7.0
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0

SUMMARY

When you close Microsoft Excel while a Microsoft Excel worksheet section is open in Office Binder, you may receive an Illegal Operation error message. If you click Details, information similar to the following appears:

EXCEL caused an invalid page fault in module EXCEL.EXE at
   0137:500eac47.

When you click Close, Microsoft Excel is closed, and the following error message may appear in Office Binder:

This action cannot be completed because the "Microsoft Excel" program
is busy. Click the appropriate button on the taskbar to activate the
   program and correct the problem.

CAUSE

When you use the View Outside command (Section menu) in Binder to open a Microsoft Excel worksheet section in Microsoft Excel, if you perform some action on the section in Office Binder, such as delete, hide, or copy while Microsoft Excel is busy, and you then close Microsoft Excel, you receive the Illegal Operation error message in Microsoft Excel as described above.

For example, if you view a Binder worksheet section in Microsoft Excel, and you press F2 to enter a formula on the worksheet, if you then switch to Office Binder, and delete the section, you receive the "program is busy" error message. If you then exit Microsoft Excel, while Binder is waiting for Microsoft Excel to respond, you may receive the Illegal Operation error in Microsoft Excel.

WORKAROUND

To avoid this problem when you view a Microsoft Excel worksheet section outside a Binder, close the worksheet in Microsoft Excel before making any changes to the section in Office Binder.
