SYMPTOMSWhen you run Microsoft Office Setup from a network server, and you perform a Custom installation, you may receive the following error message
The specified folder '< path>\' is invalid, incomplete, too long, or write protected. Enter a full path with drive letter; for example, 'C:\APPS'"where <path> is the network location from which you are running Setup.
CAUSEThis problem occurs if you run Office Setup from a network server and you use the Use Source button for the location of one of the Office components. This button allows you to run an individual Office component from the network server, without running the other components from the server (as in a Run From Network Server installation).
WORKAROUNDTo work around this problem, you can use the Network Installation Wizard (NIW) version 1.1x and later. The NIW is part of the Microsoft Office for Windows 95 Resource Kit. For more information, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base:
