The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSWhen you click the Microsoft Mail button on the Microsoft toolbar, the following symptoms may occur even if Microsoft Mail is installed on your computer (these symptoms assume that Microsoft Exchange is NOT installed on your computer).
Microsoft WordYou receive the following error message:
Word could not locate or start Microsoft Mail. Microsoft PowerPointYou receive the following error message:
PowerPoint could not locate or start Microsoft Mail Microsoft ExcelYou receive the following error message (if Microsoft Mail is not running):
Cannot run 'MSMAIL.EXE'. The program or one of its components is damaged or missing.NOTE: In Microsoft Excel, if Microsoft Mail is running, (and if Exchange is not installed) the Microsoft Mail program is activated when you click the Microsoft Mail button.
Microsoft ProjectYour computer beeps.
CAUSEThese symptoms occur if Microsoft Exchange is not installed on your computer (even if Microsoft Mail IS installed on your computer). You cannot run Microsoft Mail using the Microsoft Mail button on the Microsoft toolbar. The Microsoft Mail button on the Microsoft Toolbar is designed to start Microsoft Exchange (a 32-bit mail program), not Microsoft Mail (a 16- bit mail program).
WORKAROUNDIn Microsoft Project ONLY, to run Microsoft Mail from the Microsoft Mail button, do the following:
