The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Office for Windows 95, version 7.0

SYMPTOMS

When you run an administrative setup of Microsoft Office 7.0 on a Windows 95 workstation to an NT Server, you receive the following error message

   The specified folder:
   "y:\<long foldername>"
is invalid, incomplete, too long, or write-protected.
Enter a full path with the drive letter; for example, 'c:\apps'.

where <long foldername> is a folder name that contains a space or is longer than eight characters.

CAUSE

This problem occurs if you choose to install Office to a folder with a long name or a name that includes spaces. The same error occurs when you run Setup on an NT workstation.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, install Office either to a folder with a short name or to a folder whose name does not contain spaces.
