The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Office for Windows 95, version 7.0
  • Microsoft Access, version 7.0
  • Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0
  • Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows 95, version 7.0
  • Microsoft Word for Windows 95, version 7.0
  • Microsoft Office 97 for Windows
  • Microsoft Access 97 for Windows
  • Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows
  • Microsoft PowerPoint 97 for Windows
  • Microsoft Word 97 for Windows

SYMPTOMS

When you install Microsoft Office 97 or Microsoft Office for Windows 95 to a hard disk that has more than 1 gigabyte (GB) of available disk space, the Setup program lists the space available as 999,999K, regardless of the actual available free disk space.

CAUSE

This behavior is by design. The Setup program is unable to recognize volumes larger than 1 GB; therefore, a value of 0 is reported from the operating system during the search for available disk space. Setup changes the 0 value to 999,999K to make sure that enough space is reported for Setup to continue.
