OFF95: ClipArt or Database Files Appear with Folder Icons

The information in this article applies to:

• Microsoft Windows NT Workstation version 3.51
• Microsoft Office for Windows 95, version 7.0
• Microsoft Excel for Windows 95, version 7.0
• Microsoft PowerPoint for Windows 95, version 7.0
• Microsoft Word for Windows 95, version 7.0

SYMPTOMS

When you insert a graphic file in Microsoft Excel or Microsoft Word, the graphic file may appear with a folder icon to the left of the file name in the Picture dialog box.

In addition, when you insert an object in either Microsoft Excel or Word, or when you insert a database or file in Word, if you view the file in a dialog box, the file may appear with a folder icon to the left of the file name.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when you use Microsoft Excel or Word on a computer that is running Microsoft Windows NT 3.51. This problem does not occur when you use Microsoft Excel or Word on a computer running Microsoft Windows 95.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

This problem occurs in Microsoft Excel when you do any of the following:

• On the Insert menu, you click Picture, and view a Windows Metafile (.wmf) or Windows Bitmap (.bmp) file.
• On the Insert menu, you click Object, and then do the following:

  1. On the Create From File tab, click Browse.

  2. In the Files Of Type list, click All Files.

  3. In the Browse dialog box, view any .bmp, .wmf, dBASE (.dbf), or

        Paradox (.db) file.
  

• On the Insert menu, you click Picture, and view .wmf or .bmp files.
• On the Insert menu, you click Object, and then do the following:

  1. On the Create From File tab, click Browse.

  2. In the Files Of Type list, click All Files.

  3. In the Browse dialog box, view any .bmp, .wmf, .dbf, or .db file.

• On the Insert menu, you click Database, and then click Get Data. In the Open Data Source dialog box, you view any .dbf or .db file.
• On the Insert menu, you click File. In the Files of Type list, you click All Files, and then view any .bmp, .wmf, .dbf, or .db file.
