SYMPTOMS

When you perform a workstation setup of Microsoft Office for Windows 95, version 7.0 from a server that is running Novell Netware 4.02, the Setup program may incorrectly map the location of shared applications to a Universal Naming Convention (UNC) path instead of a network drive letter.

CAUSE

This problem occurs when all of the following conditions are met:

  • You are using Windows 95.

    -and-

  • You are using Novell Netware version 4.02 with the Novell 16-bit client to connect to the server.

    -and-

  • You perform an administrative (/a) setup of Microsoft Office for Windows 95, version 7.0 to the server.

    -and-

  • You select Drive Letter in the Connect to Server Using box in the Network Server Confirmation dialog box during the administrative installation.

    -and-

  • You then perform a workstation setup.

This problem does not occur if you use Novell Netware 4.1, or if you use the 32-bit Microsoft Windows 95 Client for Netware Networks.

RESOLUTION

Remove the workstation and administrative installations, install the 32-bit Microsoft Windows 95 Client for Netware Networks, perform an administrative setup, and run workstation setup again.

STATUS
