The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Office for Windows 95, versions 7.0, 7.0a

SYMPTOMS

The name of a toolbar on a Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar is displayed horizontally, even though the toolbar is shown vertically.

The Microsoft Office Shortcut Bar is able to contain multiple toolbars. To identify the current toolbar, the name of the toolbar is displayed normally when the toolbar is horizontal, and rotated vertically (- 90 degrees) when the toolbar is vertical.

CAUSE

The font used to display the toolbar name may be corrupt or missing.

The font used to display toolbar names in the Office Shortcut Bar is Times New Roman Bold (Timesbd.ttf). If the font is missing, the Office Shortcut Bar will substitute it with the font selected for the active title bar. If the font of the active title bar is not a TrueType font, the text will not be rotated.

The default active title bar font is MS Sans Serif (Sserife.fon), which is a fixed (non-scaleable) raster font.

RESOLUTION

Method 1: Reinstall the Times New Roman Bold font. You can manually

extract the Timesbd.ttf file from disk 4 of the Windows 95 DMF
disks or Disk 6 of the non-DMF disks. Place the file in
the Fonts folder in the Control Panel dialog box.

For additional informationon how to use Extract command, please

                         Disks

Method 2: Use the following steps to change the font of the active title
          bar:

          1. Click the display icon in the Control Panel dialog box.

          2. Click the Appearance tab and select "Active Title Bar" from
the Item list box to change the font.

The Office Shortcut Bar must be restarted for the changes to take
          effect.
