OFF97: Menus Do Not Animate When Selected Using Keyboard

SYMPTOMS

If you customize your menus to use animation, they are animated only when you select them with your mouse, not when you select them with your keyboard.

CAUSE

Animation is not enabled when keyboard keys are used to activate the menus to facilitate faster menu item selection.

RESOLUTION

To utilize the animation feature, use your mouse to select menu items.

STATUS

This is by design of the Microsoft Office 97 programs.

Menu animation is a new feature included with the Microsoft Office 97 programs. When you use this feature, your menus will drop-down in the style of animation you select. The three different animation effects for menus are:

   Random
   Unfold
   Slide

To turn on menu animation, do the following:

  1. Click Customize on the Tools menu.

  2. Click the Options tab.

  3. In the Menu Animations list, click the desired effect.

  4. Click Close.
