SUMMARY

You must have the Audio Compression component of Microsoft Windows 95 installed in order to hear the animated sounds for the Office Assistant in any of the programs included with Microsoft Office 97.

The Audio Compression component of Windows 95 must be installed for the Office Assistant sounds to work. To install the Audio Compression component, perform the following steps:

  1. On the Start menu, point to Settings, and click Control Panel.

  2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.

  3. Click the Windows Setup tab. In the Components list, click Multimedia, and then click Details.

  4. Click to select the Audio Compression check box (this should be the first component in the list).

  5. Click OK and then click OK again.

After the correct components have been installed, the sounds for the Office Assistant in Microsoft Office 97 can be turned on or off. To make sure that the Office Assistant sounds are enabled, do the following:

  1. Using the right mouse button (right-click), click the Office Assistant.

  2. On the shortcut menu, click Options.

  3. On the Options tab, click to select the Make Sounds check box, and then click OK.

If you are prompted to insert the Windows 95 floppy disk or compact disc, do so.
