SUMMARY

The CABFILE Viewer is a new utility for Windows 95 that is used to browse the contents of a cabinet file. This utility allows you to see what files are compressed in the cabinet, without extracting each file.

MORE INFORMATION

Once the CABFILE Viewer is installed, it creates a file association for cabinet files. It is this association that allows you to open the cabinet file in a window and view its contents.

NOTE: The CABFILE Viewer utility works in Windows 95 and Windows NT 4.0.

To Install the CABFILE Viewer:

Note the generic icon associated with the *.cab files before installing the CABFILE Viewer. After installing, the icon will change.

   1. Insert Microsoft Office 97 disk #1, or a disk that contains the
following files, into the disk drive:

         cabview.dll
         cabview.inf

   2. In Windows Explorer, switch to the proper disk drive.

   3. Select the cabview.inf file.

   4. On the File menu, click Install.

To Use the CABFILE Viewer:

cabinet file, into the disk drive.

   2. View the contents of the disk in Windows Explorer.

When you view the contents of a cabinet file, you can decompress the files to a specific location using one of the following methods:

   2. On the File menu, click Extract.

   3. Choose a location to extract the file to and click OK.

Method 2

   2. On the Edit menu, click Copy

   3. In Windows Explorer, select the location where you want to
      decompress the file.

   4. On the Edit menu, click Paste.

NOTE: There is a version of the CABFILE Viewer utility available with the Microsoft Windows 95 Power Toys. The only version of this utility that is supported by Microsoft Office Technical Support is the version shipped with the Microsoft Office 97 disks.
