The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft Excel 97 for Windows
  • Microsoft Word 97 for Windows

SYMPTOMS

When you quit Microsoft Office Binder for Microsoft Office 97, you may receive one of the following error messages:

This program has performed an illegal operation and will be shut down.
If the problem persists, contact the program vendor.

   -or-

   Microsoft Visual Basic
You must first close the Customize dialog box.

If you click Details, you receive an error message similar to any of the following:

EXCEL caused an invalid page fault in module USER32.DLL at
   014f:bff64e46.

   -or-

EXCEL caused an invalid page fault in module VBE.DLL at 014f:65040d76.

   -or-

WINWORD caused an invalid page fault in module VBA332.DLL at
   014f:651020cf.

CAUSE

These problems may occur when the following conditions are true:

  • You are working with a Microsoft Excel workbook or a Microsoft Word document in a section in Binder.

    -and-

  • While working in the workbook or document, you switch to the Visual Basic Editor, display a dialog box (for example, the Customize or References dialog box), and leave the dialog box displayed on the screen.

    -and-

  • You switch back to Binder, and then close the program.

RESOLUTION

To resolve this problem, close any open dialog boxes in the Visual Basic Editor before you close Binder.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article. We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

When you insert a Microsoft Excel workbook or a Microsoft Word document into Binder, almost all of the functionality for each program is available, including programming in the Visual Basic Editor.

When you display the Visual Basic Editor, display a dialog box within the Visual Basic Editor, and then close the Binder program, the displayed dialog box may prevent the Visual Basic Editor from quitting correctly. As a result, you may receive one or more of the error messages described in this article.

Note that this problem does not occur when you work with Microsoft PowerPoint 97 presentations in Binder; however, Microsoft recommends that you close all open dialog boxes in the Visual Basic Editor before you close Binder.
