ARTICLE-ID: Q132332 TITLE : How to Back Up the Registry SUMMARYThis article explains how to completely remove Microsoft Office 97 Service Release 1 (SR-1) Enterprise Update from your computer.
MORE INFORMATIONOther software programs may use the same files and registry keys that Office 97 creates. Deleting these registry keys may cause other programs that use the keys to fail to function properly. When this occurs, reinstall the programs. When following the steps listed in this article, it is important to note that all of the folders, files and registry keys/values listed may not be present on your computer. If you encounter this situation, simply proceed to the next file, folder or registry key/value. To remove Office 97 SR-1 Enterprise Update from your computer, follow these steps:
1. On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel. 2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs. In the list of installed programs, click Microsoft Office 97, and then click Add/Remove. If you installed Office from a Compact Disc, you are prompted to insert the first disc. If a dialog box appears and notifies you that programs are running, quit the programs, and then click OK. 3. In the Office 97 Setup dialog box, click Remove All. 4. When you are prompted to remove shared components, click Remove All. If you are prompted to restart the computer after Setup is completed, do so. 5. In Windows Explorer, delete the following folders: Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared Program Files\Common Files\ODBC Program Files\Microsoft Office Windows\Temp\Vbe Windows\Temp\Excel8.0 NOTE: Deleting the Program Files\Microsoft Office folder also deletes the Xlstart and Templates folders which could contain personal or custom files. Ensure that all personal or custom files are removed from these folders before deleting them. Additionally, two other folders that may contain personal or custom files are not listed above. They are the My Documents and Windows\Favorites folder. Once personal or custom files have been removed from these folders, they may also be safely removed. These two folders will not cause problems with subsequent installations of Office 97 if left on the computer. 6. In Windows Explorer, delete the following files in the folders below. Do not delete the folders. A utility that automates this process is also available. The following file is available for download from the Microsoft Software Library: ~ Eraser97.exe For more information about downloading files from the Microsoft Software Library, please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: ARTICLE-ID: Q138552 TITLE : How to Obtain Microsoft Support Files from Online Services The FTP location is ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/Softlib/MSLFILES/ For more information about using the Office 97 File and Registry Eraser Utility (Eraser97.exe), please see the following article in the Microsoft Knowledge Base: ARTICLE-ID: Q176823 TITLE : OFF97: Utility to Completely Remove Remaining Office 97 Files Windows Folder -------------- Artgalry.cag <user name>.acl Exchng.ini Extend.dat Hppcl5ms.x06 Microsoft Outlook.fav Mso97.acl Msoclip.232 Msoprefs.232 Odbc.ini Odbcinst.ini Offsetup.for Offsetup.ttf Twain.dll Twain.log Twain_32.dll Twain001.mtx Twunk_16.exe Twunk_32.exe Twain001.mtx Twunk002.mtx Twunk003.mtx NOTE: The <User Name> is the name of the user who is logged on to the computer.
