OFF97: ErrMsg: MSCam Cannot Use the Audio Settings Specified

SYMPTOMS

When you attempt to record an Audio-Video Interleaved (AVI) file in Microsoft Camcorder, you may receive the following messages:

   MSCam cannot use the audio settings specified

    -and-

   Capture failed; Please check for disk space and try again

CAUSE

This problem may occur when there is a conflict with other video capture devices or when the video capture device is damaged.

WORKAROUND

To work around this problem, follow these steps:

  1. Uninstall Microsoft Camcorder by using Add/Remove Programs icon in Control Panel. To do this, follow these steps:

          a. On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control
    
             Panel.
    
          b. Double-click Add/Remove Programs.
    
          c. Click Microsoft Camcorder and click Add/Remove.
    
             This step starts the Setup program.
    
          d. In the Microsoft Camcorder Setup dialog box, click
             Remove All.
    
    

  2. On the Start menu, point to Settings, and then click Control Panel.

  3. Double-click Multimedia.

  4. Click the Advanced tab and click Video Capture Devices.

  5. Select Screen Capture Device Driver for AVI and click Properties. Click Remove.

  6. Disable any other listed Video Capture devices.

  7. Reinstall Microsoft Camcorder from the ValuPack folder on the Microsoft PowerPoint or Microsoft Office compact disc.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Microsoft products listed at the beginning of this article.
