Overview

The "Office Manager Patch for 7.5.2" file included with this Application Note updates Microsoft Office Manager (MOM) version 4.2.1 for the Macintosh. The patch corrects a problem you may encounter when you use MOM on a Macintosh running System 7.5.2. To use this patch, you must have Microsoft Office version 4.2.1 or 4.2.1a installed on your computer.

This patch revises the way MOM handles an application programming interface (API) call that was changed in System 7.5.2 from earlier versions of System 7. Because the API call was changed in System 7.5.2, MOM hangs (stops responding) when it makes the API call. Apple has confirmed this to be a problem in System 7.5.2.

To Install the MOM Patch

  1. Hold down the SHIFT key and restart your computer. Release the SHIFT key when the "Welcome to Macintosh. Extensions Off." message disappears.

  2. If you received a disk with this Application Note, insert the disk in the disk drive.

If you downloaded this Application Note from an online service, skip to step 3. This procedure assumes that you have already downloaded and extracted the compressed file.

  3. Open the Microsoft Office Manager Patch folder.

  4. Double-click the "Office Manager Patch for 7.5.2" file.

  5. Click the Patch button in the dialog box.

  6. Locate the Microsoft Office Manager file in the dialog box that appears. To do this, click the name of the hard disk (typically named Macintosh HD) in the drop-down list at the top of the dialog box, double-click System Folder, double-click Control Panels, and double-click Microsoft Office Manager.

  7. Click the Patch button.

  8. Restart your computer to re-enable any extensions that are loaded at startup.

You should now be able to run Microsoft Office Manager on a computer running Macintosh System 7.5.2.
