SYMPTOMSWhen you attempt to delete a category or a thumbnail from Clip Gallery, you receive one of the following error messages:
Cannot delete this clip because it resides in a read-only preview file.-or-
Unable to fully delete category because some of the previews reside in a read-only preview file.-or-
This category cannot be deleted. CAUSEThis error occurs because the clip image or category that you are attempting to delete is stored in a ClipArt Gallery Package (.cag) file on a read-only volume. For example, the .cag file is stored on a read-only network location or a compact disc.
WORKAROUNDWARNING: Using Registry Editor incorrectly can cause serious problems that may require you to reinstall your operating system. Microsoft cannot guarantee that problems resulting from the incorrect use of Registry Editor can be solved. Use Registry Editor at your own risk. For information about how to edit the registry, view the "Changing Keys And Values" Help topic in Registry Editor (Regedit.exe) or the "Add and Delete Information in the Registry" and "Edit Registry Data" Help topics in Regedt32.exe. Note that you should back up the registry before you edit it. If you are running Windows NT, you should also update your Emergency Repair Disk (ERD). To work around this behavior, move the .cag file to your hard disk, remove the read-only attribute and then delete the desired category or clip image, following these steps:
