PRB: Embedded Objects Not Activated by Excel

Last reviewed: February 17, 1995

The information in this article applies to:
  • Microsoft OLE version 1.0

SYMPTOMS

When an application attempts to activate an Excel embedded object using the procedures of the OLE libraries, Excel does not activate the object. Excel does allocate memory on behalf of the object.

CAUSE

Although the restrictions on OLE object names are the same as for MS-DOS filenames, Excel version 3.0 does not activate an object that has a backslash (\), forward slash (/), or colon (:) as part of its name.

RESOLUTION

Avoid using the three characters, which were specified above, in the names of Excel objects.
