SYMPTOMS

When you first start Microsoft Outlook 97, you may receive an invalid page fault in module Outlrpc.dll.

CAUSE

You have an invalid, outdated or damaged Msvcrt40.dll file on your system. This file resides in your \Windows\System or \Windows\System32 folder. Msvcrt40.dll is a Microsoft C Runtime Library file. The correct file is version 4.10.6038 with a size of 326,656 bytes and a date of 11/17/96.

WORKAROUND

Exit Outlook, rename the Msvcrt40.dll file and copy the Msvcrt40.dll file from the root folder of your Microsoft Office 97 CD-ROM into your Windows\System or Windows\System32 folder. Make certain the file's Properties are not set to read-only.

NOTE: If you have trouble renaming the Msvcrt40.dll file, press CTRL+ALT+DEL to display the Close Program dialog box. Make sure Outlook, Awfxex32, and Mapisp32 are no longer running and try again. It may be necessary to exit Windows and rename the file from a DOS prompt.
