SUMMARY

This article describes how you can set your Microsoft Outlook 97 Microsoft Fax service to dial telephone numbers within your area code as if they are long-distance.

MORE INFORMATION

When you set up the Microsoft Fax service within Windows, you specify your dialing location. By default, the Microsoft Fax service dials any telephone number within your area code as a local telephone number and any telephone number outside of your area code as a long-distance telephone number.

In some areas of the country your telephone service may require you to dial certain numbers within your area code as long-distance telephone numbers, including 1+(area code) prior to the last seven digits. You can use several methods to set up your Microsoft Fax service to dial certain telephone numbers within your area code as long-distance telephone numbers.

Outlook

To use the Microsoft Fax add-in menus in Outlook to specify which local telephone numbers to dial as long-distance, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu in Outlook, click Microsoft Fax Tools, and then click Options to open the Microsoft Fax Properties dialog box.

NOTE: This option is only available if Microsoft Fax is active in your Outlook Add-In Manager. The Microsoft Fax add-in file is Awfext.ecf. For more information about add-ins, see the "References" section later in this article.

  2. Under the Dialing tab, click the Toll Prefixes button to open the Toll Prefixes dialog box.

  3. In the Local Phone Numbers list, click to select the local numbers that you want treated as long-distance and click the Add button to move them to the "Dial 1-(area code) first" list.

  4. After selecting all numbers, click OK to close all dialog boxes.
