The information in this article applies to:
SYMPTOMSUsing the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch (IMEP) for Microsoft Outlook 97, if you download an entire e-mail message and then use Remote Mail to download only message headers, you may see the header of the previously downloaded message.
-or-If you use Remote Mail to download an entire message and then click "Check for New Mail" on the Tools menu (or press the F5 key), you may receive a duplicate copy of the message.
CAUSEWhen you set up the Internet Mail service, you chose the option to "Leave a copy of messages on server." Consequently, the downloaded message remains on the server and its header continues to download when using Remote Mail. Remote Mail does not support preventing duplicate copies of messages.
RESOLUTIONYou can turn off the option to leave a copy of messages on the server by following these steps:
If you want to leave some messages on the server and download others, turn off all of the options in Step 5 above and on the Tools menu click Remote Mail when checking your mail. After you download all message headers, you can use Remote Mail to either "Mark to Retrieve" or "Mark to Retrieve a Copy" of each message. After you mark each header, run Remote Mail again to either download the entire message or just a copy.
