SYMPTOMS

When you use the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch for Microsoft Outlook 97 (IMEP), have reply ticking turned on, and you reply to an e-mail message sent to you using Microsoft Exchange rich text format, the original message text in your reply does not wrap. A single reply tick appears at the beginning of the line of text.

RESOLUTION

To make the text wrap when using reply ticking:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  2. Click the Internet E-mail tab.

  3. Select "When sending messages, wrap text at", and enter a number of characters per line.

  4. Click OK.

STATUS

Microsoft has confirmed this to be a problem in the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch for Microsoft Outlook 97 (IMEP). We are researching this problem and will post new information here in the Microsoft Knowledge Base as it becomes available.

MORE INFORMATION

When you reply to a message, the IMEP offers the ability to indent the original text and mark it with a special character such as an angle bracket (>). This is also known as a reply tick, or reply ticking. To turn on this option and select a special character, follow these steps:

  1. On the Tools menu, click Options.

  2. Click the Internet E-mail tab.

  3. Under E-mail reply format, click "When replying to messages, indent original text with."

  4. Click to select your choice of characters from the list.

  5. Click OK.

To retain rich text formatting when you send a message to a recipient who uses Outlook, Microsoft Exchange Client, or another mail system that can show text formatting:

  1. In your open message, double-click the recipient's e-mail address.

  2. Click "Always send to this recipient in Microsoft Exchange rich text format."

  3. Click OK.

NOTE: This option is also available when you create a new entry in your Personal Address Book.
