  • Microsoft Outlook 97

SYMPTOMS

When using the Internet Mail Enhancement Patch for Microsoft Outlook 97 (IMEP), if you attempt to assign the same "friendly" name to a new Internet Mail account as an existing account on the same computer, you will receive the following error message:

An account already exists with this name.
Please enter a unique account name.

RESOLUTION

Always use a unique friendly mail account name when setting up a new Internet Mail account on the same computer.

MORE INFORMATION

The IMEP allows you to define multiple Internet Mail accounts in the same user profile. You cannot however, use duplicate friendly mail account names on the same computer, even if they are in different user profiles.

To Reproduce the Problem

  1. On Outlook's Tools menu, click Services.

  2. Click Add.

  3. Click Internet Mail and click OK.

  4. In the Mail Account window, type a friendly mail account name that is the same as another friendly mail account name on the same computer,

  5. Set up the rest of the mail account information and click OK.

RESULT: You will receive the error message referenced above.
